Kansas City's Source of Literary Expression
For over a decade, The Writers Place has served as Kansas City's best-loved literary gathering center, a place where writers -- both local and national -- can meet with readers of all ages for readings, lectures, workshops and receptions. It's a place where readers gather to discuss books, poetry, and plays. At The Writers Place, the art of the spoken word is celebrated every day.
No other Kansas City art organization has, as its calling card, such an intriguing and romantic setting as The Writers Place, located in a beautiful fin de siecle mansion that has been the subject many newspaper and magazine articles. The past life of this mansion is as colorful and exciting as any novel or screenplay: Over the last 90 years, it has been an elegant private home, a bawdy brothel, and an evangelistic church.
As The Writers Place, the interior of the spacious limestone home has been remodeled to include a gracious lounge and reception area on the first floor and a second-floor library, both available to rent for workshops, meetings, or other events. Click here to learn more.
