Reading Series
The Writers Place regularly features readings by local, regional, and visiting writers of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. In addition, we offer several ongoing series:
Riverfront Reading Series – 2nd Fridays, 8 PM
Since 1986, Riverfront Readings of poetry and literature have taken place the second Friday of each month at 8 PM. Regular readings feature two readers, usually poets, who may be established regional writers or more local, emerging ones. Riverfront also hosts special readings and open mics throughout the year.

The Writers Place Poetry Series at The Johnson County Library - 3rd Tuesdays, 7 PM
Initiated in 2001 and co-sponsored by The Writers Place and the Johnson County Library, this popular series brings poets from Kansas City and the region to the Johnson County Library in Overland Park, Kansas, to present their work. Each reading typically features two poets and is held at on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 PM, except in November and December. Podcasts of the readings are available on the library website. Readings include light refreshments and last about an hour. The series is coordinated by Writers Place board member Jeanie Wilson. The contact number for questions is 913.495.9107.

The Writers Place Reading Series – 3rd Fridays, 7 PM
Main Street Rag Poetry Showcase – 3rd Sundays, 7 PM
Co-sponsored by The Main Street Rag Literary Journal and Main Street Rag Press, this monthly poetry showcase takes place every third Sunday at 7 PM. Each Showcase features a reading by local, regional, and national poets, followed by an open mic session where the audience is encouraged to share their own work or that of poets they admire. This is a casual, bring-your-own-beverage-and-snacks event celebrating poets of merit and emerging talent. Shawn Pavey, co-founder of MSR and Vice President on The Writers Place Board of Directors, hosts this event which has been going strong since June 2007.
The Writers Place Salon – 4th Mondays, 7 – 10 PM
Celebrate the written word. Bring poetry, short stories, plays, songs, or a chapter from your novel to share with others. Listeners are also welcome. Hosted by Sharon Eiker.
