Dan Jaffe & The Greg Richter Trio

Part of the The Writers Place's Thomas Zvi Wilson Reading Series at the Johnson County Library. 

Dan Jaffe will read jazz poems with members of The Greg Richter Trio: Greg Richter, Joe Straws and Tom Pender. A mystery guest – a well-known area writer – will also debut a new jazz poem.

This evening exploration of jazz history will include pieces about Benny Moten, Charlie “Bird” Parker, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, the Buena Vista Social Club, Ira Sullivan, Josh White, Paul Robeson, Bobby Watson, Count Basie, George Salisbury, and Walt Whitman’s Blue Book.

Poet Dan Jaffe has written more than two dozen books. His most recent emphasize his obsession with music, and include Playing the Word, a book of jazz poems; Festival, primarily classical; and On the Way to the Polls, political poems. Jaffe has performed with many jazz greats, including Mike Melvoin, Ira Sullivan, Bobby Watson, David Basse, and Nicole Yarling. His poems have been widely anthologized in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
