Slavic Arts Festival & Reading: A Celebration of Eastern European Culture

  • The Writers Place 3607 Pennsylvania Ave Kansas City, MO, 64111 United States (map)

Be entranced by the colorful folk art of Croatian Strawberry Hill artist Marijana Grisnik. Hear literary musings from writers of Slavic ancestry. Boogie to the dizzying music of Mr. Grisnik’s polka band. Indulge in the home-cooked, culinary delights of kiełbasa (sausage) and sauerkraut, sarma (cabbage rolls), pierogi (potato-filled dumplings), potato salad, rye bread, imported beer and lots of red wine. And enjoy traditional fried cookies prepared by cookie blogger André Du Broc.

Featured writers are Karen Craigo, Michael Czyzniejewski, Susan Peters, Michelle Pond (Podniesienski), Benjamin Reed and Frank Shimerdla. Visual artists also include Cathy Bylinowski, Jason Jambrosic and Michelle Pond. Co-hosted by Pat Lawson (committee chair), Eve Ott, Michelle Pond and Rhiannon Ross. Minimum donation $5. Please arrive early (6:40 p.m.) to chow down!
