Riverfront Readings will host poets Walter Bargen and Boyd Bauman, Friday, April 12 at 8 p.m. at the Writers Place at 31 W. 31st.  Music by Gib Shell.


Walter Bargen has published 22 books of poetry.  Recent books include:  Days Like This Are Necessary: New & Selected Poems (BkMk Press, 2009), Trouble Behind Glass Doors (BkMk Press, 2013), Perishable Kingdoms (Grito del Lobo Press, 2017), Too Quick for the Living (Moon City Press, 2017), and My Other Mother’s Red Mercedes (Lamar University Press, 2018). His awards include: a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and the William Rockhill Nelson Award.  He was appointed the first poet laureate of Missouri (2008-2009).


Boyd Bauman grew up on a small ranch south of the town of Bern, Kansas (population 200).  His dad was a storyteller and his mom the family scribe.  Grist for the mill included stints as a flight attendant out of New York City, dude ranch worker and ski bum in Colorado, and King Salmon fisherman in Alaska.  Boyd has taught English in Hiroshima, Japan and Saigon, Vietnam.  He is currently a librarian and writer in the Kansas City area.  Boyd lives with his lovely wife Lisa and their little poets Haven and Milly.
