Readings & Literary Events

The Writers Place's full schedule of readings inspire and entertain audiences.  In addition to three regular series, throughout the year we host readings by local, regional, and visiting writers of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction.

Veterans Programs

Veterans and their families from across the Kansas City metro area have been involved with The Writers Place for the past several years, and the programs are continuing to grow. We held a weekend of workshops called "Telling Your Story" for veterans and their families to use writing as a method of processing their experiences. We have partnered with Woodneath to offer veteran workshops, and we continue to explore new ways to provide workshops for veterans. Stay tuned to our calendar for more upcoming events and opportunities.

Education Programs

We believe that creative writing can be taught, and learned. We offer a range of educational programs for writers of all skill levels.  Our writing workshops led by published, professional writers, can help you fulfill your aspirations, whether you're already published or just starting out. Other opportunities help writers navigate the reality of the writing life.

Youth Programs

Our youth programs serve middle and high school students and include In Our Own Words, poetry-writing workshops held at under-served schools; the regional Poetry Outloud event, and summer writing workshops for young writers.
