The Writers Place Reading Series featuring Daren Dean, Colin Brightwell, and Marcia Hurlow

Daren Dean is the author of eight books. His most recent books were published in 2025. The New Salvation And Other Stories (Cowboy Jamboree Press), Lovesick, a prose chapbook (Louisiana Literature Press), and Shelter Me, A Novel (University of West Alabama's Livingston Press). He earned an MFA from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. The Black Harvest was nominated for the Pen/Faulkner, the W. Y. Boyd Literary Award for Excellence in Military Fiction, and Midlands Author Award. Dean is an Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing at Lincoln University of Missouri. 

Marcia L. Hurlow's chapbook of poetry, Dog Physics, was published by Main Street Rag Publishing, fall 2024.  Her newest full-length collection, Practice Rapture, was published in May 2025 by Pine Row Press. Her poems are forthcoming or have recently appeared in Baltimore Review, Witness, The Greensboro Review, Chiron Review, After Happy Hours, Free State Review, Mudfish, The Naugatuck River Review, and I-70 Review, among others. She is co-editor-in-chief of Kansas City Review.

Colin Brightwell is a graduate of the University of Mississippi’s MFA program. His fiction has appeared in Reckon Review, BULL, Rock and a Hard Place, and Dark Yonder. His debut collection, Nothing Good Ever Happens in a Flyover State, is available through Cowboy Jamboree Press. He currently teaches middle school English outside Kansas City.
